Dr. Paul L. Phillips was ordained elder in the Virginia Conference in  1989. He graduated 

            from Christopher Newport College in 1983 with a BS in Business Administration. In 1987

            he graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary with a Masters in Divinity. In 1996

            DocPaul graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky with a Doctor in

            Ministry Degree in Spiritual Formation.  He is married to Martha Jane Osborn from Erie,

            Pennsylvania. They have two sons locally, Ryan in Yorktown, and Kris, Jessica and

            granddaughter Jordan in Virginia Beach. DocPaul has served the Warren Charge, Burnt

            Factory,  Bethel/ St. Matthews Charge and Toms Brook UMC's. He  has been the pastor at

             Crooks since June, 2004.

             Gina Walter keeps the office running smooth and the DocPaul straight.  She has been the

             Administrative Assistant at Crooks for a long time. If you have any questions she will be able

             to find the answer.  Gina is married to Helmut Walter and they have three daughters and three

             granddaughters who live away from the area. We are very fortunate to have Gina in the office

             as the first person you meet when you come during the week.

           Kathy Jackson is our Director of Music and has been with us for over seven years. She is a     

           very accomplished musician and vocalist. She has her Bachelors and Masters Degrees and

           music and besides leading the music program for the church teaches music and voice in the

           community. Kathy is married to Ed Jackson and they have two sons, Lee who is a student at

           Tabb High School and Morry who is attending the Air Force Academy.  Kathy directs the

           Chancel Choir, Men's and Women's Choirs, Contemporary Worship Team, and provides for

           all special music.  We are very fortunate to have Kathy on our staff.

           Janet Giffin is our newest member of our staff and joined us as the Church Organist in July

           of 2006.  This is Janet's second time as our organist, she left us to be the organist at Fort

            Monroe and later retired to Florida. We were fortunate enough when she moved back to

            Virginia to again bring to talents to our congregation. She is an excellent musician and

            accompanist. Her versatility includes moving from the organ during the 11:00 service and

            playing the opening hymn to moving to the piano to be a part of the contemporary worship

            team.  Janet is married to John Giffin.

            Sherri Roth is our Youth Director and joined our staff in December, 2005. She has been doing

            an excellent job with our youth and bring a humble, servants heart to the position. The youth

            have related very well to her ministry and she has brought excitement and energy to our

            program. She is married to Jeff Roth. They have two children, Ashley and Remington, who are

            both high school students.

            We are very blessed with the staff that God has given us at Crooks Memorial, and Nancy Root

            provides the assurance that parents desire as the Nursery Coordinator. Nancy is responsible

            for the coordination of the Nursery at both worship services and teaches the nursery class at

           Sunday School. She is married to David Root and they have three children, Katelyn, 

           Christopher and Matthew.

          Allen Conway has been the person in Sound and Lighting for a long time, I believe he followed

          in the footsteps of his day.  Allen is kept very busy in in position taping worship services,

          providing sound for the worship team and choir, and doing the lighting and sound for the

          Crooks Players, a dinner theater group in the church.  Allen is also an accomplished musician,

          playing the piano, drums, and the guitar with the worship team.

      Gloria and Robert Sedgwick are our Church Sextants.  They have been with us over thirty

      years and we are blessed to have them as a part of the ministry of the church.  They do an

     excellent job getting the church and facilities ready for Sunday morning and keep it looking

     great throughout the week. We want to thank them for their many years of dedicated service to  

     Crooks Memorial.
